Back in the Netherlands, in 1990, Peter played with the ‘Begeleidings Orkest’ and won the audition as extra bassclarinet player in the Arnheim Symphony Orchestra, but was also a guest many times as (e-flat) clarinet player as well.

For a longer period of time he played in the Trio Con Spirito; clarinet, cello and piano.

In 2002, Peter founded the Kurios Clarinet Quartet and recorded three albums; the latest album, ‘Triple Dutch’, was praised in reviews all over the world.

He plays more popular music in Take Five. Peter is a regular guest player on National Television, also as an improviser. He has toured with the Netherlands-wide popular band Sela and played in the former New English Orchestra and Hineni Symphony Orchestra. As a conductor, he has worked with many choirs.

With this unique solo album, Peter Koetsveld contributes to the popularity of the clarinet in the Netherlands and abroad by playing Bach, the Dutch composer Willem Frederik Bon and the contemporary American composer Mike Curtis.         Tracks are for sale at https://store.cdbaby.com/cd/peterkoetsveld , also available on iTunes and Spotify

Bach as family foundation

Sooner or later this link with the past comes alive, especially under pressure. I consider Bach as my ultimate musical foundation. One discovers how much one’s roots are connected with his ever-flowing deep expressions. Deep. I couldn’t stop playing Bach, necessary, like breathing. For the very first time in my life the thought of recording some was birthed. I won’t judge if playing Bach on a clarinet is permissible (Bach most likely didn’t come across this still immature instrument during his lifetime). For more than a year I have been playing Bach daily; not really practising, but enjoying, feeling connected and feeling companionship. Perhaps I may take you on a piece of the journey, by foot.

The 12 etudes of Willem Frederik Bon were left untouched by me for many years. No clue why. Bon’s etudes are much more than practising skills. These are little abstract paintings, in which Bon proves himself a real artist in choosing colours and contrast. And sometimes he goes wild, like life.

My friend the American composer Mike Curtis sent me his solo pieces, which he wrote in Spanish Placensia, inspired by this little city in all its beauty. And Spanish it is.He is enjoying himself over there and understands how to express this in notes

My friend the American composer Mike Curtis sent me his solo pieces, which he wrote in Spanish Placensia, inspired by this little city in all its beauty. And Spanish it is.He is enjoying himself over there and understands how to express this in notes.

One feels also the laziness of a real siesta mirrored by Spanish dance and fire. Heart-warming.
